Mapleton Press Archives and Mapleton Yearbooks

How to navigate the site: Click on the red link "Mapleton Press Archives"; You can type a person, place or event in the top search box (you may try several searches using all or partial information). Various filters will be available to narrow your search. Once you have located the summary you are looking for, click on the blue date above the summary, this will take you to the actual digitized paper. The words you searched for will appear highlighted. To narrow a search, use two or more words in quotation marks. Another suggestion is to use the "Resources" on the archive page. There are many helpful items available. GOOD LUCK SEARCHING.

Additional issues of the Mapleton Press are now available. Newspapers from Jan. 1, 1877 to Dec.31, 2018 are now available in digital format. A portion of the archives is supported in part by the State Historical Society of Iowa, Historical Resource Development Program and Friends of the Fisher-Whiting Memorial Library and the Fisher Whiting Memorial Library. In the past 12 months (March 2018 to March 2019) the archives have been used 1300 times.

The original project to digitize the entire historical collection of the Mapleton Press was completed in 2011, giving the people of Mapleton, Iowa a full newspaper record of the history of their town. The digital records are available at mapleton.advantage-preservation.com and are fully searchable by name and keyword, making finding historical events quick and easy. All images are provided as .pdf files, which can be downloaded, printed out, or saved to a thumb drive.

The project was funded by the Monona County Community Partners Foundation, with the assistance of the Friends of the Fisher-Whiting Memorial Library for all issue through June 2011. The library originally decided to digitize their local paper in 2011. Digitization was performed by Advantage Preservation out of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Microfilm versions of the newspaper are also still available and up to date through 2018.
